[Qutb's text — collated Arabic] ببعض المعلومات . ولو بطل هذا كله ما وجدوا لهم سنداً يرتكزون عليه ، ولما اجدت قوتهم المادية كثيراً ولا قليلاً . وانه لا يخيفنا أن يعيد الانجليز احتلال الوادي كله (١) بقواتهم . بل انها لتكون فرصة لا تعوض ببعثرة قواتهم وجنودهم على مصايد الفدائيين في طول الوادي وعرضه فالذين يهددوننا بإعادة الاحتلال العسكري إما مغرضون يرجفون وإما ضعفاء غافلون والنصر لنا على كل حال . إن كتائب التحرير ستطهر الوادي من الخونة ومن الجواسيس ومن المرجفين. وعندئذ لن يجد الاحتلال له نصيراً . ولن تنفعه قواه الحربية اذن . وعشرون مليوناً يترصدون القراصنة في كل شبر من الأرض يدافعون بهذه الروح العجيبة التي يتسابق بها المتسابقون في ميدان التضحية النبيلة . فعلى بركة اللّه فليسر الجميع في طريق المجد وعلى بركة اللّٰه فليتسابق المتسابقون وليتنافس المتنافسون في ذلك الميدان الكريم .

[Later compiler's note 4 — collated Arabic] (١) قالوا في تبرير هزيمة حزيران : اننا لم نبدأ بالقتال -- مع علمنا بان إسرائيل ستضرب مصر يوم ٥ حزيران - خوفاً من أن يحتل الأمريكان مصر كلها !!!

translation

[Sayyid Qutb] some information. If all of this stopped, they would find no support on which to rely, and their material power would avail them neither much nor little.

It does not frighten us that the English may reoccupy the entire Valley with their forces (1). Rather, it would be an irreplaceable opportunity to scatter their forces and soldiers among fedayeen traps along the length and breadth of the Valley. Those who threaten us with renewed military occupation are either malicious alarmists or heedless weaklings. Victory is ours in every case.

The Liberation Battalions will purify the Valley of traitors, spies, and alarmists.

Then the occupation will find no supporter, and its military forces will be of no use.

Twenty million people will lie in wait for the pirates on every inch of land, fighting with this marvelous spirit with which the racers race in the field of noble sacrifice.

With God's blessing, let everyone proceed on the path of glory. With God's blessing, let the racers race and the competitors compete in that noble field.

[Later compiler's note 4] (1) They said in justification of the June defeat: “We did not begin the fighting, even though we knew Israel would strike Egypt on 5 June, for fear that the Americans would occupy all of Egypt!!!”
