[Sayyid Qutb] the creed and the leadership. All of this occurred before they showed their faces in open and declared war. They therefore had to be exposed to the Muslim community so that it would know who its enemies were, what their nature and history were, what methods they used, and the true nature of the battle it was fighting against them.

God, glorified be He, knew that they would be the enemies of this community throughout its history, just as they had been the enemies of God’s guidance throughout their past. He therefore presented their entire affair openly to this community, and all their methods openly.

Another aspect of this wisdom is that the Children of Israel followed the last religion before God’s final religion. Their history before Islam extended over a long period. Deviations occurred in their creed, they repeatedly broke their covenant with God, and the effects of this breach and deviation appeared in their life, morals, and customs. This required the Muslim community, as heir to all the messages and custodian of the divine creed in its entirety, to know the people’s history and the changes in that history. It had to recognize the pitfalls of the path and their consequences as represented in the life and morals of the Children of Israel, add this experience in the field of creed and life to the sum of its experiences, benefit from this reserve and bring benefit throughout the centuries, and especially guard itself against the path’s pitfalls, Satan’s points of entry, and the first signs of deviation in light of those experiences.

Another aspect of this wisdom is that the experience of the Children of Israel has many pages across its long span. God knew that when a nation’s span grows long, its hearts harden and some of its generations deviate. He knew that the Muslim community, whose history would extend until the Hour arose, would encounter periods resembling periods in the life of the Children of Israel. He therefore placed before the imams, leaders, and renewers of the call in the many generations of this community
