In any event, this is an opportunity to speak about the reality of the Islamic bloc as its advocates understand it, or as they should understand it.

We repeat for the thousandth time that Islam does not recognize the myth that makes religion one thing and politics another. This myth reached us among the things we imported from Europe, where people do not profess Christianity, even in theory, and Christianity contains neither a law, a social system, nor an international system.

It is therefore merely a belief in the conscience. Society, however, with its legal, social, and international relations, is regulated by other laws that have no connection to Christian belief. There is no Islam without Islamic law, an Islamic social system, and international relations based upon these foundations of Islam. In relation to Islam, this is self-evident. It requires neither extensive learning nor deep research.

It is most astonishing that anyone should imagine there are divisions in Islam between religion and government, between religion and politics, between religion and the social system, or between religion and international relations.

More astonishing still is for someone to call a state Muslim when it has not derived its laws from Islamic law, based its social systems on an Islamic foundation, or established its international relations upon the constitution of Islam.

Dr Ahmad Zaki Bey’s statement then becomes: “The purpose of the conference
