The convoy murders left four unarmed passengers dead. The first UN release gave three; the completed investigation gave four and assigned truce responsibility to Transjordan while leaving the killers’ identities unknown. The September 24 and 28 cables concern this single September 22 attack. ¹

The Arab government announcement claimed all ארץ ישראל EREẒ YISRAʾEL amid Egyptian–Transjordanian rivalry. It also reported condemnation of the UN murders and protest against continued detention from approximately 11,000 detainees in Cyprus. That estimated population and statement establish neither new migration nor a new detention total for September 22. ⁷
