This exchange records a signed question about land sales in ארץ ישראל EREẒ YISRAʾEL and Riḍā’s answer in al-Manār. It matters as a specific example of a religious and legal intervention in debates over Jewish land acquisition. The pages establish what was printed, not whether the ruling was followed.

Provenance

This edition presents a signed question by Muḥammad Yaʿqūb al-Ghuṣayn and Riḍā’s answer in al-Manār, volume 33, number 4, printed pages 273–275.1 The title and its English translation preserve the source’s name for the land. TJD’s own prose uses ארץ ישראל EREẒ YISRAʾEL. The bounded pages do not establish a publication day or place of printing.

The controlling witness is the bounded facsimile of the cited al-Manār issue.

Contents and scope

| Source PDF page | Annual volume image | Printed page | Bounded content | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | 1 | 185 | 273 | Title, al-Ghuṣayn’s question and signature | | 2 | 186 | 274 | Opening of Riḍā’s answer and first part of a sentence that crosses the page break | | 3 | 187 | 275 | Continuation and end of Riḍā’s answer |

The earlier edition-root text placed the complete crossing sentence on page 275. The facsimile shows its opening at the foot of page 274. The corrected split is recorded in the page apparatus and private boundary audit. The following separately titled fatwa begins on the next annual-volume image and is outside this bounded record.

Methods and limits

The three Arabic page files were collated against the bounded facsimile. The English page files carry TJD’s translation as reviewed candidates, with their state shown to readers. Page interpretation was reviewed and separates the questioner’s and Riḍā’s claims from established facts.

Rights and permissions

The rights record clears the underlying text and TJD derived text layers for publication. The facsimile and older edition-root texts remain source-only and are not packaged. Bilingual, analysis, apparatus and final editorial review were completed on 2026-09-21, and the derived page layers are eligible for the runtime package. The dated article links back to this evidence record.

Source claims and limits

Al-Ghuṣayn, who signs as chairman of the executive committee of the Congress of Young Arabs in Palestine, asks for a religious ruling on people who help יהודים YEHUDIM acquire land. The facsimile does not name Muḥammad Luṭfī al-Ḥusaynī. Riḍā’s answer begins on printed page 274. He calls sales, brokerage, and encouragement of sales to יהודים YEHUDIM a betrayal of Islam and his nation. The question and answer oppose Jewish land ownership in ארץ ישראל EREẒ YISRAʾEL and treat Jewish buyers as a collective enemy. Their claims about displacement, economic power, and future threats are source claims; these three pages alone do not verify them. The source also does not show that Riḍā’s ruling was enforced.

Dating

The issue masthead, outside these three bounded pages, prints Rabīʿ I 1352, the solar month of Cancer 1311, and June 1933, without a day. TJD places the dated article in Tammuz 5693 at month-only precision by correlating the source’s lunar month with the substantially overlapping Hebrew month. That placement is a calendar reconstruction, not a day printed in the source.2
